Hello and welcome to The Pull! Each week, we (Ghost, Reed & Samantha) put together a definitive list of comics we’re most looking forward to reading. Then we send it off to you, to pick and choose from our pull list as you please.
This week, we have 10 titles for your perusal. Did we miss something really great? Let us know in the comments or hit us up on Twitter @ItsThePull!
Captain Marvel #9
Writer: Kelly Thompson
Artist: Carmen Carnero
Colorist: Tamra Bonvillain
Letterer: VC’s Clayton Cowles
Cover Artist: Mark Brooks
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Samantha: This issue is going to set a new status quo for Carol Danvers and the world, and I couldn’t be more excited to see where this creative team takes her next. This run has been fresh and interesting from the jump and each issue just builds on that foundation, even in the issues that crossover with events. I always look forward to Captain Marvel, but this issue has me especially anxious.
Ghosted In L.A. #2
Writer: Sina Grace
Artist: Siobhan Keenan
Colorist: Cathy Le
Letterer: DC Hopkins
Publisher: BOOM! Box
Samantha: I thoroughly enjoyed the debut issue of Ghosted In L.A. and frankly, I’m here for all the ghost stories BOOM! is releasing! Bring on the hauntings, especially if they’re as fun as this one.
Gwenpool Strikes Back #1
Writer: Leah Williams
Artist: David Baldeón
Colorist: Jesus Aburtov
Letterer: VC’s Joe Caramagna
Cover Artists: Terry Dodson & Rachel Dodson
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Ghost: How can I not buy a Leah Williams book? There is no world in which I don’t recommend this. I love David Baldeón’s art and have since his debut on Domino. Two great tastes that taste great together. I’ve never been a huge fan of Gwen, but if anyone can make me like her, it’s Leah. Pick it up.
Samantha: It seems like Leah Williams has been teasing this book for AGES and now it’s finally arrived. If this mini-series can maintain the absurdity of Gwen Poole’s fourth-wall-breaking shenanigans and do it through Williams’ quippy dialogue, then it’s going to be a wild, über fun ride — so we should probably buckle up!
Ironheart #9
Writer: Eve L. Ewing
Artist: Luciano Vecchio
Layouts: Geoffo
Color Artist: Matt Milla
Letterer: VC’s Clayton Cowles
Cover Artists: Stefano Caselli & Matt Milla
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Samantha: Riri and Shuri! RIRI AND SHURI!!!!!!!!!
Miles Morales Spider-Man #9
Writer: Saladin Ahmed
Artist: Javier Garrón
Colorist: David Curiel
Letterer: VC’s Cory Petit
Cover Artist: Patrick O’Keefe
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Reed: Miles is in trouble – big trouble. It’s been a while since I’ve been this stressed for a comic book character. Saladin Ahmed is knocking it out of the park with this book, but I really need him to let me know if my son is going to be okay.
Once And Future #1
Writer: Kieron Gillen
Artist: Dan Mora
Colorist: Tamra Bonvillain
Letterer: Ed Dukeshire
Publisher: BOOM! Studios
Samantha: Kieron Gillen says this book isn’t political (except for how it is), but it tackles nationalism through an Arthurian lens (which is EXACTLY my shit) and it’s already sold out three printings before it even hits shelves… which intrigues me beyond even my general interest in the title. WHAT’S ALL THE HYPE ABOUT? I’m stoked to find out.
Powers Of X #2
Writer: Jonathan Hickman
Artists: R.B. Silva & Adriano Di Benedetto
Colorist: Marte Gracia
Letterer: VC’s Clayton Cowles
Designer: Tom Muller
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Ghost: Not sure there isn’t a world in which people aren’t just hype beyond hyped for the next issue of HOXPOX. Honestly the enthusiasm is refreshing. I loved House of X #2, but let’s just all see what heights we can sore to.
Samantha: I don’t think anything can get me as excited as last week’s House of X #2, but I’m trying not to assume that Hickman has peaked just yet… You bet I’m still following these comics week to week!
Reed: Things are FINALLY coming together in Hickman’s grand plans for the X-Men and it’s delicious. R.B Silvia’s otherworldly art is full of expression and drama. This is the X-Men content we deserve.
War Of The Realms TP
Writer: Jason Aaron
Artist: Russell Dauterman
Colorist: Matthew Wilson
Letterer: VC’s Joe Sabino
Publisher: Marvel Comics
Samantha: I didn’t keep up with the War of the Realms event at all, mostly because of event fatigue — that said, Reed, Ghost, and others have all said that this event is super fun, so I am planning to pick up and read the trade!
White Trees #1
Writer: Chip Zdarsky
Artist: Kris Anka
Colorist: Matt Wilson
Letterer: Aditya Bidikar
Publisher: Image Comics
Samantha: Zdarsky, Anka and Wilson? Uh, SIGN ME UP.
Xena Warrior Princess #5
Writer: Vita Ayala
Artist: Vasco Georgiev
Colorist: Rebecca Nalty
Letterer: Ariana Maher
Cover Artist: David Mack
Publisher: Dynamite Entertainment
Samantha: The introduction of Discord to this series has been so much fun! I love every issue of this run and I don’t see that changing any time soon — Vita Ayala’s writing is sharp and from the preview pages, Vasco Georgiev’s art is perfect for the tone.
